Training

Apprenticeship Training

Local 842 offers Apprentice, Generalist & Rodman Training at the New Brunswick Community College in Moncton through the Apprenticeship Organization which is a branch of the Post Secondary Education Training and Labour.

Apprentice Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Good work ethics
  • Good physical shape
  • Travelling involved

Generalist Training

Consists of 8 weeks of school attendance per year over a 3 year period. At the end of the 3rd Year the Apprentice writes the Red Seal (Generalist) exam.

Rodman Training

Consists of 7 weeks of school attendance per year over a 2 year period. At the end of the 2nd Year the Apprentice writes the Red Seal (Reinforcing) exam.

Journeyman Upgrading

Consists of blueprint reading, rigging, welding and a ‘Red Seal Refresher’ course.

Foreman Training - 24 hours
 
Safety Training – NBCSA

  • Safety Orientation – 4 hours
  • Workplace Hazardous Material Information System – 4 hours
  • Fall Protection – 8 hours
  • Fall Protection Refresher – 4 hours (internet accessible)
  • Confined Space – 2 days
  • Confined Space Refresher – 1 day (internet accessible)
  • Manlift Awareness – 8 hours
  • Trenching – 4 hours
  • Lock Out Tag Out - 4 hours

Forklift training – 8 hours
Telehandler (Rough terrain Forklift) - 8  hours


Welding – Canadian Welding Bureau

Certifications offered to Welders:   

  • SMAW “S” classification
  • FCAW  “S” classification
  • ASW (decking)
  • Stainless to mild steel 309 electrode
  • GTAW (fillet and groove)
  • SMAW T classification (open root plate)
